On 10 April 2020 the buildings of the Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw, were connected via an optical fiber link to the nationwide PIONIER academic optical fiber network. The connection is based on dark optical fibers. It will be the backbone of the National System for Generation and Distribution of Optical Reference Carrier, where it will be used to receive optical time and frequency reference signals. It will also enable long-distance quantum key distribution as a part of the Quantum Technologies Labs. Within the Faculty of Physics the signals will be directly delivered to the Quantum Gases Lab and the Quantum Photonics Lab.
