Prof. Dr. hab. Katarzyna Chałasińska-Macukow
Professor Katarzyna Chałasińska-Macukow graduated from the Faculty of Physics of the University of Warsaw in 1970. In 1979 she got a PhD degree, in 1988 a postdoctoral degree (habilitation), and in 1997 the title of professor. For most of her scientific career she has been employed at the Institute of Geophysics, Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw, where she co-founded the Information Optics Department. In the past, she also worked at the Institute of Physics at the Warsaw University of Technology and at the Institute of Experimental Physics at the Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw. She took numerous scientific internships in France (at Université Franche-Comté, Besançon), Canada (at Université Laval, Québec) and Spain (at the Autonomous University of Barcelona). The subjects of her research are information optics, Fourier optics, holography, image processing and recognition, photonics.
Professor Chałasińska-Macukow was very active in the organizational field and held numerous functions in the authorities of the University of Warsaw. For two terms she was the Rector of the University of Warsaw. She was also the Vice-Rector of the University of Warsaw, the Dean and Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Physics of the University of Warsaw, and a member of the board of numerous scientific societies and committees (including the Polish Physical Society, the Polish Optoelectronics Committee, the European Optical Society, the International Commission for Optics). She was awarded, among others, the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
