Dr. Eng. Karol Krzempek
In his research, he deals with detection of trace gas concentrations using coherent sources of electromagnetic radiation. His experimental work focuses mainly on developing unconventional gas detection methods that are based on measuring gas dispersion (dispersion methods) or changes of gas refractive index (photothermal gas detection methods). The constructed sensors use commercially available lasers that emit radiation in the near (~ 1.6 µm) or medium (2 – 10 µm) infrared wavelength range and sources based on non-linear frequency conversion (e.g. differential frequency generation). The main scientific goal of the current research is to integrate sensitive detection methods for trace gas concentrations with sensors based on low-loss microstructural hollow-core fibers.
