Prof. Dr. hab. Eng. Wacław Urbańczyk
He graduated in technical physics from the Faculty of Fundamental Problems of Technology at the Wrocław University of Science and Technology (WUST) in 1980. After obtaining his PhD degree in 1984, he was employed at the Institute of Physics of WUST. In 1996, he obtained the habilitation degree (DSc) and, in 2002, the title of professor of physical sciences. Since 2015 he has been the head of the Department of Optics and Photonics in the Faculty of Fundamental Problems of Technology at WUST. He leads a scientific team dealing with research and applications of special optical fibers. His scientific interests focus on optics and photonics, including photonic optical fibers, polarization optics, optical metrology and optical fiber sensors. He was a PI in 17 national and international research grants. He has published 160 articles in international scientific journals and over 130 conference communications. He is the author of 4 national and 3 international patents. His work has been cited over 2,000 times (without self-citations), his Hirsch index is 28. Since 2000, he has been the editor-in-chief of the scientific journal Optica Applicata published by WUST.
